Partial Derivatives | | Iso-Contouring Example

The finite difference method uses the points in the grid neighborhood in x- and y- direction and approximate the partial derivative by the respective scalar difference of the points in the neighbourhood divided by the point distance.

  • single neighborhood: left and right finite difference
  • dual neighborhood: central difference
